The Importance Of Good Circulation

good blood circulation is important for tattoo removal

Good blood circulation is an important part of the fading process, and (all else being equal) tattoos located farther from the heart tend to fade more slowly because there is less blood being circulated to the area.

Our clients often ask us what they can do during the six weeks in between treatments to help speed up the removal process. This is especially important if your tattoo is located further from the heart, or on an extremity such as ankles, feet, toes, or fingers — areas that naturally tend to get cold due to poorer circulation.

We recommend the following to increase circulation which helps your body process and flush out the ink from your system:

  • Drink plenty of water. The average person needs about 2 liters (half a gallon) a day.
  • Exercise with an elevated heart rate for at least 30 minutes per day (this will also boost your immune system).
  • Massage the area with an ointment of your choice to promote blood flow to the area. This has the added benefit of moisturizing the skin and improving its overall condition so it is prepared for your next treatment (NOTE: wait until the skin is visibly healed post treatment before doing this — at least a few days).

Doing all of the above during the 6-week wait between treatments will set you up for faster fading and healthy skin!
